Increase in home prices spikes to 21.1 percent in January

Existing homes for sale were 21.1 percent more expensive in January than a year earlier. This is the largest price increase since statistics began in 1995. This is according to research on the price development of existing privately owned homes in the Netherlands by CBS and the Land Registry.

Rising trend in prices of homes for sale

In June 2013, prices of owner-occupied homes reached a low point. Since then, there has been an upward trend. Compared to the trough in June 2013, prices were nearly 91 percent higher in January.

Fewer transactions of existing homes for sale in January

The Land Registry announced that it recorded 14,053 housing transactions in January. That is almost 43 percent less than a year earlier.

Price information by region and housing type is published quarterly by CBS. The next quarterly results will be available April 22
CBS and the Land Registry measure the price development of all existing owner-occupied houses in the Netherlands and use the purchase deeds registered with the Land Registry.
